It looks like some extensions need to be targeted specifically at VS11 to make them work with Visual Studio 11 beta (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/LightSwitchDev11Beta/thread/cf462d63-1649-4ec6-9ccf-9f30ea6af1d9). The good news is that this doesn’t seem to be the case for Themes and Shells (does however depend on the supported frameworks in the theme/shell manifest having been left to the default of 4.0 to 4.5). I’ve successfully installed a couple of DELORDSON themes and shells without recompiling. Here’s the install experience:
Double click on the vsix file as usual. If the shell or theme is already installed in VS10, you get the an option to install it into just VS11.
For brand new shells and themes built with VS10 but not yet installed in VS10, you get the option to install in both…
The new extensions show up in the properties.
…and it works exactly as expected .
You can buy the full DELORDSON theme set here http://lightswitchhelpwebsite.com/Market/Themes.aspx and the OutlookBar Shell here http://lightswitchhelpwebsite.com/Market/Shells/DELORDSONShells.aspx
Thanks
Delordson
