It's the first thing they'll ask...

"Why can't I copy the contact details from the Contact Manager app?"

If I use a Rows Layout to with read-only controls and no labels it sure looks like a perfect target for a user to go and select the text to be copied into an email etc.

Is this a Silverlight limitation or simply a feature MS didn't think to add into LightSwitch.

I wouldn't want clipboard support 'everywhere' but it cetainly would make sense in some places, preferably configurable to some extent...

    Anyone else feel the same?

This is exactly the type of conversation I was hoping to have on this site.

Silverlight does have copy and paste support. I can hightlight something and hit Ctrl+C to copy and then hit Ctrl+V to paste when in a text box.

Are you talking about something else?

Copy and Paste is a feature that I would really like to see.

I have raised 2 Connect issues through Microsoft Connect. Please feel free to vote on these if you agree. It might just increase the chances of these features making it into v2.

    Tim,

I get page not found when I use those links. Do I have to be logged in to the Connect site.

Also, I want to make sure I understand the problem because Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V do work in text boxes.

Do You need right-click and a menu pops up and asks to "copy"? You can add this by replacing the standard LightSwitch Textbox and label controls with a custom Silverlight Control, right?

I see you have this example for a masked text box:

    Hi Michael,

Yes - you do need to be logged onto Connect.

When I created those issues in beta 1, I'm pretty certain that Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V didn't work. But I'm glad that it's working now!

Thanks for the second tip about the custom control I'll give that go.

I am looking for image paste and I think there are a number of end-users that don't know about the clipboard hot keys (believe it or not).

Lightswitch has a valid start, but I was disappointed to not see it on the context menu or C&P beyond simple text strings.

I guess this is an item for my "further investigation" list.  Great site by the way Michael!

Hi, I'm using Visual Studio 2010 with Lightswitch 2011, and working on a desktop application.
In a data grid with readonly controls, if a user selects a cell and pressed CTRL+C, the entire row gets copied to the clipboard instead of just that cell.

So for example, if my data grid has the following columns:
    Username, FirstName, LastName, EmailID

And the user selects a single EmailID cell and presses CTRL+C, then the whole row including Username, FirstName, LastName and EmailID will all get copied into the clipboard instead of just the EmailID. Does anyone know how to fix this?
