  • rbrogan rbrogan Anyone know how to configure the HTML lightswitch client to use the new asp.net identity framework? Referenced here http://blogs.msdn.com/b/webdev/arch...-identity- membership-system-for-asp-net-applications.aspx?CommentPosted=true#commentmessage and here https://github.com/rustd/AspnetIdentitySample

I like the idea that ASP.NET Identity can be used with all of the ASP.NET frameworks such as ASP.NET MVC, Web Forms, Web Pages, Web API and SignalR, so why not lightswitch?

    Thanks,
    Roger

It is recommended that you use the official Visual Studio LightSwitch Forums at:

  • Liviu Liviu Hi Roger,

Would be great to post a demo here if you wish. I also tried to integrate a SOAP service but I couldn't retrieve the classes I needed from it and I ended up using a WCF ria where I have integrated that service.

  • Liviu Liviu Hello,

Let's say I have a data source which contains 2 tables, both added on the same screen. It is possible to save the changes I make only for one table (something like this.DataWorkspace.DataSource.TableA.SaveChanges()), or just for the entire datasource? I read on this forum that is possible to discard the changes from a datasource just for certain entities but didn't find how to save them.

    Any help is appreciated.

  • Alex Alex Hi
I download the project End-to-end-Example, but i note one problem.
In the screen 'Main.js', it count the item in the list use CountOrders method. But if I add the order, using the button 'add Order',
the count label dosen't refresh the value and not increase.

Don't exist the manner for do this?

    Thanks

    Ale

  • Bill Bill To take the question a bit further, I've had three different developers recommend a "code first" model to create the Data Access Layer and then RIA services to handle the CRUD.

Their point is that the heavy business logic is separated / underneath lightswitch so if in the future a ast.net mvc + responsive layout was desired; it would be less painful.

    Thoughts...

  • DedoOne DedoOne I thought about using single user groups, although via a hub. The draw-back to single user groups are noted here: http://www.tugberkugurlu.com/archiv...tion-users

Using persistent connections is certainly another approach in which to use, rather than creating a hub. David Fowler notes the advantages of using a hub over a persistent connection here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/...connection

Thank you for the link Michael, I’ll grab a cup of java and settle into it for a read.

  • Michael Washington Michael Washington It will not be posted by me but another of the Blogger, Richard Waddell. He has working code but he is polishing it and he plans to write a detailed article about it. He has a full-time job outside of LightSwitch so he works on it on the weekends. This is the reason fro the delay.

  • DedoOne DedoOne That would be tremendously cool Michael, as there currently exists nothing out there in which to example from within the context of Lightswitch.

Even if I did manage to get it to compile correctly, the static dictionary is not the optimal route in which to take. Holding these connections persistently within a table is the best approach.

It would simply be very, very, very cool to push validation notifications on to a specific client.

If I manage to accomplish this, I’ll post it here. In the interim, I’ll wait with baited breath for yours Michael.

Once again, thanks so much for all your wonderful help.

  • DedoOne DedoOne

I am trying to push server generated notifications onto the HTML Client via signalR.

Mat Sampson has a great Blog posting on how to do it here: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rmattsampso...witch.aspx

However, his example pushes the notification to ALL clients, rather than to the specific client which created/updated the record.

Unfortunately to achieve this, the task becomes much more complicated as the User’s connection now has to be mapped. I have been unsuccessful in achieving this via a ConcurrentDictionary approach towards the context.Clients.Client(connectionId).send(message)method, at least within a Lightswitch context.

After many hours of efforts, I fear it is currently beyond my ability to implement.

Any help would be most welcomed.

    Cheers,

    Roger

  • MTinet MTinet My 5 cents: maybe one advantage of the RIA service could be the centralization of the application and business logic and data access control, so that you would not have to implement these in all the clients that would otherwise need to connect to the external DB directly.
Note: I think you can also do that with a LS application and connect via the ODATA interface. (I have no personal experience with this though).

  • MTinet MTinet Hello all!

I have posted my issue on the MSDN forum but I am stuck on the binding issue.
The post can be found here:
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Fo...698569f9ce

I have searched the web and tried many solutions but I can't get it to work and it feels like I am going in circle with this.

    To briefly explain the issue:
I have an entity table called "Computers" and the members are ID, Name, type, and IpAddress. In addition, each computer has a list of ids of computers connected to it.
I represent the data in LS with a "List and Detail screen" but I need to have a graphical reprensentation of the data as a network of computers.

I guess I need to create a SL custom control and so I need to bind the entity (Computers) to it or is there another way? Also it is important that I don't only get the Computers visible on the screen as I need ALL computers in the table to build the full network (I will need logic to scroll and draw the network based on user navigation events (scroll/Zoom).

I have a lot of challenges ahead but the biggest one at the moment is getting the list of Computers accessible from the SL custom control (binding).

I hope you guys could point me in the right direction and guide me through this.

    Thanks!
